SEPTEMBER 2011 SSWRC EVENTS

THUR SEP 1: Open 3 - 7p: ART WORK FOR WELLNESS WORKS INITIATIVE - National Coalition for Mental Health Recovery, National Empowerment Center, National Mental Health Consumers' Self Help Clearinghouse, Peerlink Technical Assistance Center, the Cafe TA Center, & NAMI STAR Center - invite you to submit a piece of original creative work expressing what wellness means in your lives and for your communities. Submissions are due by Monday September 12, 2011 - visit www.power2u.org for submission guidelines! (Basically, each person can enter 1 poem, 1 image, 1 song, & 1 video online to wellnessworks@gmail.com - including your name and contact info, and any peer support organizations, such as SILVER SPRING WELLNESS & RECOVERY CENTER, http://www.silverspringdropincenter.blogspot.com/ as a resource. Each applicant is encouraged to mention us and other organizations & programs that they use for peer support! :)

An interactive presentation by mental health peers for mental health peers, to help you learn about the USDA My Plate, how to maintain healthy barriers, healthy lifestyle, and emotional and physical wellness. This is Part One of Two - you're welcome to attend both sessions or just one (the next session is MON SEP 26, 5 - 7p). Light refreshments served.

Learn about this fabulous program that trains individuals in 6 - 8 sessions to use public transportation (FREE). The cost of using public transportation during the training is covered by INDEPENDENCE NOW. At the end of a successful training, individuals will receive a $50 SMART Trip Card! LITERACY TRAINING AVAILABLE BY APPOINTMENT. If interested in literacy training, please become a member of our program first (membership is free). Contact MIRIAM or BEN for membership application, 301.589.2303 X 108 & X 111, respectively. Then, be willing to go to a literacy evaluation by the LITERACY COUNCIL OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY , 301.610 0033, 3rd floor of the Rockville Library. The cost for the evaluation is $15; we may be able to pay for that. Then, you will meet with our fabulous new volunteer, WENDY, by appointment.

WRAP (WELLNESS & RECOVERY ACTION PLANNING) CLASSES WILL START UP IN LATE OCTOBER. PLEASE CONTACT MIRIAM FOR MORE DETAILS AND TO SIGN UP, 301.589.2303 x 108.
